DDF 2013

The Detroit Design Festival (DDF) is an experimental festival of visually-driven events, held annually during the third week of September. Our event Type in the City proceed during the 2013 DDF festival; hosted from D:hive's office on Woodward in Downtown Detroit.

D:hive was Detroit's Welcome Center for a duration of three years, as provided by a state grant. D:hive helped small upcoming businesses to find a permanent space in Detroit, with regards to replenishing the local economy. My team "Type in the City," worked alongside Andy Kopietz, of whom at the time was D:hive's Creative Director.

"Type in the City" was curated by Danni Wu and myself, as a type-driven scavenger hunt that explored Detroit's many typefaces within the city. Participants were made to search for fonts on the street, businesses and old panted signs. Type in the City's goal was to allow the average person to understand and begin to digest the impact that type and design has on our lives without our prior knowledge.
